The Military Battery of Ashes sits on the Mount of Ashes, to get to this place we must pass Portman and continue along the road towards the Belones and the Llano del Beal.

Portman is a small coastal town in the region of Murcia that had a lot of importance Roman times. It is located south of the municipality of La Unión next to the Sierra Minera de Cartagena on the shores of Portman Bay.

HISTORY
The Battery of the Ashes or "C-9", is a Spanish coastal artillery support fortification was built and gunned between 1930 and 1934.

It is located at 305m above sea level and belongs to the C-9 Complex in Cabo Negrete, within the Calblanque Natural Park.

It is equipped with two Vickers 38.1 guns brothers of those of the battery of C-1 of Castillitos.

Its access is a large Mayan-Toltec style cover. The portico is inspired by the Temple of the Warriors Banks of the ruins of Chichen-Itza simulating gigantic feathered snakes with their heads at the base and the crotals as capitals.

In 1.993 it was in the situation of out of service due to lack of agreement between the Ministry of Defense and the Autonomous Community, since it was on the ground in an area of natural interest.

It was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest on August 7, 1997.
